Support employee recovery with a structured return-to-work process.

The Return to Work (RTW)/Designated Medical Provider Program (DMP) helps injured employees transition back to work by connecting employers with designated medical providers and supporting a structured return-to-work process. This approach helps ensure employees receive appropriate care and support during recovery.

Establish a clear and comprehensive Return-to Work/Designated Medical Provider policy that outlines the employer’s commitment, expectations, procedures, roles & responsibilities confidentiality relating to getting an injured employee back to work.

  • Select a provider with the knowledge and training to work with occupational injuries and who understands your business.
  • Inform the provider in writing that they have been selected and that you have a transitional work program
  • Display the DMP selection and the “Important Notice to Workers” poster in a conspicuous manner in all worksites
  • Complete the annual DMP renewal form in myWSI.
  • Inform all employees of the initial DMP selection and/or any changes to the selections.

  • Conduct training sessions to educate employees on the purpose of the program, roles and responsibilities, DMP selection and their options.
  • Employers selecting the RTW/DMP program for the first time must ensure the safety coordinator and any employees involved in the implementation complete WSI’s RTW/DMP program training within the first 90 days of their eligible policy period.
    • This training is available as a live webinar or a recorded version in the Learning Management System (LMS).
