We are seeking a candidate with a passion for construction and engineering, who enjoys working outdoors and has a strong understanding of technology to fill our role as an engineering technician/construction technician!As our new team member, you will be responsible for conducting field inspections for all types of construction projects, ensuring compliance with plans, specifications, and contract documents. You'll get to work with cutting-edge equipment like Robotic Total Station GPS, drones, and use computer aided drafting software such as MicroStation to measure and calculate quantities and create reports and plan sheets for use on construction projects. You'll also get to perform tests on road and bridge building materials for all types of projects to ensure that they meet NDDOT specifications.But that's not all! You'll have the opportunity to assist project engineers with checking and organizing project final records, as well as with district design work that requires the use of MicroStation. And don't worry, we'll make sure you have all the necessary training and support to excel in these tasks.We're looking for someone with all types of knowledge and skill level to join our team!

Minimum Qualifications

To be considered for an Engineering Technician IV, you must have at least six years of work experience related to the engineering technician duties listed. College-level course work and/or degree in an engineering or related field reflecting the required abilities for this position may be substituted for the required work experience on a year-for-year basis. Materials testing is preferred.To be considered for an Engineering Technician III, you must have at least four years of work experience related to the engineering technician duties listed. College-level coursework and/or degree in an engineering or related field reflecting the required abilities for this position may be substituted for the required work experience on a year-for-year basis. The Construction Crew Lead will oversee the DWR's Construction Crew which includes two full-time employees. The Construction Crew Lead is a member of the Design and Construction Section of the Water Development Division.The Construction Crew completes repairs and modifications to DWR, state agency, and political subdivision owned projects. Examples of projects completed by the Crew include: repair of principal spillway at Blacktail Dam, replacement of low-level valve actuator at Mt. Carmel Dam and Fish Creek dams, repair of trash rack at Square Butte dam, repairs to USGS gage sites, and repairs to project features on the state-owned Devils Lake Outlets. The Crew also helps with emergency flood response and occasionally the inspection of dams. Frequent overnight travel is expected during construction season, typically 3 nights per week (four 10+ hour days Monday through Thursday and sometimes Friday).

Minimum Qualifications

Requires six years of construction experience, and an associates' degree in a related field. In lieu of associates' degree, experience may be substituted on a year for year basis up to two years. Overall experience must include: Operating heavy equipment. *Vocational training for heavy construction equipment operation or a related field reflecting the required abilities for the position may be substituted for the required work experience on a year-for year basis up to two years. Experience on civil construction projects, including at least five years work experience on infrastructure related construction projects. Experience in mechanical work, welding, carpentry, and construction work.Ability to lead and direct a team on a variety of construction projects. A valid Class A commercial driver's license with air brake endorsement or ability to obtain it within 6 months of employment.Strong interpersonal and verbal skills.Ability and willingness to travel throughout North Dakota.

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with survey methods and procedures. Experience with construction of water resource projects.

This position will support and manage agency data collection operations in support of the agency water resource management functions, install the DWR's PRESENS (Pushing REmote SENSors) dataloggers, work closely with agency personnel and landowners to determine locations for installation, and be responsible for contacting North Dakota One Call before installation.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires successful completion of high school or GED.Must possess a valid driver's license and be able and willing to travel during weekdays to include overnight hotel stays. Attention to detail and the ability to create repeatable results.Must be able to work in various weather conditions and terrains.The ability to troubleshoot and overcome problems as they arise.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience operating handheld or desktop electronic multimeters to measure voltage and current.
