Inpatient Billing Requires Primary Diagnosis Code

Effective January 1, 2015, WSI will require the primary diagnosis code for an inpatient hospital charge.

Any bill submitted without the primary diagnosis code (in box 67 on the UB 04) will result in a denial with WSI Reason Code 230. Providers need to submit a correct bill including the primary diagnosis code.
