Employee Involvement in Safety

On average about 1-in-16 North Dakota workers submit a claim to WSI and about 6% of the employees injured on the job seek medical treatment. The best preventable measure to prevent injuries is to be actively involved in safety at the work place. An active involvement in safety means:

  • Understand hazard control methods to eliminate or reduce exposure
  • Inspect your work area, including tools and equipment prior to use
  • Report any and all unsafe conditions, near-misses, injuries and ergonomic concerns to your employer in a timely fashion
  • Volunteer for the safety committee and other safety functions
  • Provide safety improvement ideas to your employer
  • Watch for the safety of yourself and your co-workers
