New CMS 1500 Form & ICD-10 Implementation

The following are updates regarding the new CMS 1500 form and delayed implementation of ICD-10.

In preparation for ICD-10 implementation, CMS published a new CMS 1500 form with an effective use date of April 2014. Providers may submit either the new or the previous version of the CMS 1500 Form to WSI.

WSI is delaying implementation of ICD-10 until October 2015 due to the recent decision by United States Congress. In the interim, providers should continue to submit billed charges to WSI with ICD-9 code set.

ICD-10 Implementation

CMS issued the final rule that October 1, 2014, is the compliance date set for the transition to the use of ICD-10 procedure coding system, replacing the ICD-9 code sets.

The transition to ICD-10 is required for all entities covered by HIPAA. Despite the fact, WSI is a non-covered entity; we have chosen to adopt ICD-10 in order to remain an effective business partner with our customers who are required to transition.

To assist with planning and preparation, visit the CMS website.
