Special Investigations Unit

In 1994, WSI established a Special Investigations Unit (SIU) to combat fraud through investigation, prosecution, and public awareness programs. The SIU program includes anti-fraud training for employees within North Dakota Workforce Safety & Insurance (WSI), as well as external business and providers.

SIU investigates to prove, but also disprove, fraudulent behavior and activity, by gathering evidence through a variety of means. This may include subpoenaed information, witness statements and interviews, and review of surveillance footage.

In addition to fighting fraud, SIU also conducts special assignments to gather information to expedite WSI’s services to employers, injured workers, and providers of North Dakota.

The success of detecting workers’ compensation fraud depends on everyone reporting questionable or suspicious activities. All information received is reviewed which may result in an investigation. Information will remain anonymous upon request.
