Penalties for Committing Fraud

If a fraudulent act is committed to obtain benefits or services of $500 or less, the offense is a class A misdemeanor.

If a person defrauds the system of more than $500, the offense is a class C felony, which can be punishable with a fine of up to $5,000 and 5 years incarceration, or a combination of both.
