Safety Mentoring

Safety Mentoring is a process that provides ongoing knowledge transfer achieved through a developmental partnership in which one-person shares knowledge, skills, information, and perspective to foster the personal and professional growth of someone else.

Employer’s Role

Develop mentoring program that is effective at providing a workplace with reduced risk for the new employee.

Mentor’s Role

Willingness to share culture and personal experiences that lead to a greater awareness of safety hazards and how to avoid them. Work closely with the mentee, example the same shift, work site, department, etc.

The following is a general overview for implementing the mentoring process:

  • Develop a mentoring program
  • Identify mentor selection and matching to mentee
  • Identify mentor training
  • Develop mentoring topics and goals of the program required by SOS. There must be significant focus on employee safety in the mentoring program.
