Safety Orientation System (SOS)

The Safety Orientation System (SOS) assists employers in successfully achieving the North Dakota Workforce Safety & Insurance (WSI) Safety Action Menu Items. Each item includes an explanation of the implementation process and requirements, and provides resources and examples.

The goal of the SOS is to provide guidance to employer’s safety orientation including their implementation and improvements. This provides the SOS requirements and resources available to employers.

Data compiled from 2010 to 2014 of WSI claims indicate that a majority of injuries happen in the employee’s first year. See the graph below for more detailed information on the correlation of claims with length of employment. WSI’s statistics align with the statistics of national studies.

This program applies to new employees and those employees with duties that have significant changes the present different safety hazards
