Establishing a Safety Management System (SMS)

The Loss Control department is able to assist customers with the implementation of SMS. The following are general components of a SMS:

  • Designate a Safety Coordinator
  • Develop a Safety and Health Policy Statement
  • Identify safety responsibilities for all employees
  • Identify a safety management structure
  • Identify applicable safety and health regulations pertinent to operations
  • Develop a training program to include employee orientation
  • Workplace Inspections
  • Emergency procedures and First Aid
  • Promote safety and health through management, leadership and employee involvement
