Agriculture Safety

Agriculture is one of the most hazardous industries in the United States. According to OSHA, farm workers are exposed to numerous safety, health, environmental, biological, and respiratory hazards. These include equipment rollovers, heat exposure, falls, musculoskeletal injuries, hazardous equipment, pesticides, and many others.

North Dakota Workforce Safety & Insurance (WSI) offers a variety of safety incentive programs (SIP) and safety services to assist policyholders in the prevention of workplace injuries.  SIPs and safety services are available to all WSI policyholders, including those in the agricultural industry.

Workers’ compensation coverage for agricultural operations in North Dakota is optional (NDCC §65-01-02.20).   While coverage is optional for agriculture, an employee or covered owner injured on the job may receive benefits including wage loss and medical.  Types of Benefits includes detailed information on the benefits available.

For information regarding custom agricultural operations, see NDCC §65-01-17.
