Obtaining Coverage

An Application for Insurance is available as an online service. This service provides an easy, confidential, and timesaving way to apply for workers' compensation insurance coverage electronically. You may also download our Application for Insurance form, complete it, and either fax it (701-328-3750) or mail it to us. You will be contacted as soon as possible by telephone to review your application. Once your application has been processed, WSI will calculate your premium based on the payroll estimate you have provided and mail you a statement.

If you have immediate needs such as a letter of good standing to the Secretary of State or a Certificate of Premium Payment as proof of coverage, or if you have a general question on the underwriting of your coverage, you may email us at wsiemployerservices@nd.gov or call one of our Underwriting staff:

  • Sheri: 701-328-3860 or 1-800-440-3796 (ext. 83860#)
  • Carleen: 701-328-3773 or 1-800-440-3796 (ext. 83773#)
  • Scott: 701-328-3812 or 1-800-440-3796 (ext. 83812#)

The Effective Date of Your Coverage:

North Dakota State Law requires a business to make application for workers' compensation insurance coverage prior to hiring workers. Your workers' compensation insurance coverage is effective upon receipt of a completed insurance application and approval from WSI's Underwriting Unit. If you file for insurance coverage online, your coverage is effective as of the date and time you transmit the information online, pending approval from WSI's Underwriting Unit.
