Safety Incentive Programs
Grants
Workforce Safety & Insurance (WSI) will no longer accept new applications for its
WIRC I and II (Workplace Injury Reduction Challenge) safety grant program. This will provide WSI the
opportunity to process pending WIRC applications and allow WSI to make sure there is enough funding for
already accepted applications that may meet the requirements for funding. In addition, WSI wants to
modify existing safety incentive programs to better meet the needs of promoting safety in the workplace.
Through both the HELP (Hazard Elimination Learning Program) and WIRC safety grant matching programs,
North Dakota employers and WSI have teamed up to help make North Dakota workplaces the safest in the nation.
In the last 3 years, WSI has issued nearly 900 matching grants and committed almost $18 million to assist
employers in purchasing safety interventions. Additionally, nearly $3 million has been provided by WSI to
fund safety training for employers and state associations through the LMS (Learning Management System) and
STEP (Safety Training and Education Program).
WIRC grant applications received or postmarked after Tuesday June 30, 2009 will not be considered for funding.
Any applications received after this date will be returned.
It is anticipated that within the next six weeks the accumulation of WIRC safety grant
applications will have completed the review process. In the meantime WSI is committed to
fully fund its LMS, Ergonomics Initiative and STEP 1 & 2 safety programs. Anyone may keep
informed of the latest offerings and developments by following the newest information at the WSI website, www.WorkforceSafety.com.
